Beijing, October 1, 2007

Martin Wragge, the Cape Town developer of Century City and currently the CEO of LRPS China which is developing the R4-billion (Rands) mixed use Forest Park development in the Province of Ningxia in North West China, was one of 50 foreigners from 20 countries honoured by the Premier of China in the Great Hall of the People on Tianemen Square yesterday with an Award for their contributions to the development of China.

The Awards – in the form of gold medals – were presented by Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan and senior members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

At a meeting with Premier Wen Jiabao afterwards he said the work that was being done by the awardees was highly valued by China who needed foreign expertise to help in its rapid transformation to a first world economy. He said the awardees were not only helping improve the standard of living of the Chinese people but also their productivity and capacity. The awardees were chosen for their contributions in a wide range of fields, principally science and technology.

At a formal dinner to mark the 58th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China in the Great Hall of the People afterwards – attended by the awardees and some 3,000 foreign leaders, ambassadors and senior Government leaders – Premier Wen Jiabao said he wished to “express deep appreciation to foreign friends who care about and support China’s modernization drive.”
